Press Release from the Romanian Workers Association

Press Release from the Romanian Workers Association

The Romanian Workers Association is aware of the peaceful protests that occurred in Santiago de Cuba due to food shortages and electricity outages during the last weekend. These are caused, in the first place, by 60 years of US blockade that has been greatly tightened in recent years.

Cuba is under the longest economic blockade in history. As a result, it becomes virtually impossible for Cuba to use the dollar for purchaseing products abroad. It is also much more difficult for families to send money to Cuba. The result is an economic contraction and shortages on the island.

Right-wing politicians and groups in the United States, the same ones who are fully involved in the blockade, meanwhile, continue to interfere in the internal affairs of the island, in order to incite the people. They cannot and should not be hypocrites.

Anyone who truly cares about the Cuban people should now ask the US government to lift the crippling blockade.

The Romanian Workers Association condemns those in the United States and elsewhere who cynically exploit the situation to further destabilize Cuba, and supports Cuba's right to sovereign development.

The Romanian Workers Association, from Bucharest, Romania urges the Biden administration to end the blockade of Cuba. This will allow immediate aid to be launched to alleviate the economic crisis on the island, leaving free space for Cuba to use its resources and have exchanges with the outside world, whose sole purpose will be the development of its economy for the benefit of its people, who are being blocked for more than 60 years now.

The Romanian Workers Association will continue to support the Cuban people and their government in their fight against ongoing US sanctions and provocations.

Long live free and independent Cuba and its brave brotherly people!
